I wasn't expecting that ending... I'm so sorry he passed away. And how terrible they took out your tree that shaded your window and gave birds a place to perch! HOAs can be out of control sometimes.

Pets are amazing but they are a lot of work and a lot of worry sometimes. We have to make sure they have all the room they deserve, literally and figuratively.

I don't like sad endings. But the story had to be told because of my love for dogs - I loved that little dog and it crushed me when Buddy passed. I didn't expect it, either.

Ah yes, the woes of living in HOA communities, especially those with the overzealous in charge. The tree thing was a deal breaker - exactly why I'm talking my husband into moving when we can... the neighborhood is really nice, but sans the trees and woods I'd rather be in the city with amenities in walking distance. Paying for the privilege of trees and a country setting lost its allure since the new developing in the neighborhood; that, and our landscaping company (who is in bed with the HOA president) deciding the fate of pine trees.

I thank you for writing about Buddy! He was truly a special dog that captured the hearts of many in his short time on this Earth. I appreciate the love and care that you gave Buddy during the time he was in your care. You proved that you could be a great dog mom. I hope that some day you have a dog of your own to love. As always I admire your ability to write. Your stories are so interesting to read. Take care my friend! Elaine

It's amazing how dogs teach us lifelong lessons.

So Buddy did for you, Patti. Before he passed away.

Sometimes I wonder how many of our dogs are here to just be our teachers and have our backs.

"Sometimes I wonder how many of our dogs are here to just be our teachers and have our backs." You summed it up better than I could. What a beautiful and so true statement.

I am not a dog person either. (Can I even say that out loud!?). But, damn, some of them can be cute. Definitely Buddy. I am so sorry this happened.

You can shout it out. There are many who aren't crazy about dogs. I think I might like the idea of having one... a lot of work though, at least for me. Plants are too. :)

Pets offer so much in the way of love, company, and cuddles. Yes, they're work just like our human relationships, but the rewards are great. I think you did an awesome job and Buddy knew and appreciated your efforts.
