Thank you for sharing this very personal moment. We know how we live but many don’t know how we die. Mostly people are afraid of the moment. Death isn’t something we become familiar with. It’s totally out of our control. When does the body know to stop? When does the spirit know to go? When my father died he too had been quiet, like sleeping. As we watched the machines say he was dying he turned his head to me, opened his eyes and in that moment we saw each other and he went away. I saw him, I felt him leave. I’ve become more familiar with death now. People you love leave. Animals you love leave. What I have come to know in their dying is that nobody and no thing should ever die alone. Hold the pet that you love until they go, hold the hand of the one you love until they go. It’s important to them and it’s important to you. They know you are there. You may think they don’t but they do. I hope that every person on deaths journey has daughters as good as you Patti and I.
